One of the many petroglyph panels found along the Hidden Valley Trail near Moab. Not only are there many amazing petroglyphs found in this area, there also appears to be many long lines of bighorn sheep in the area. This is one of the longer lines I have come across. The day I hiked this trail the weather forecast was calling for a 60% chance of snow. I decided to head to Moab anyways and hike the trail. Lucky for me the weather turned out to be perfect…it was a great day for hiking…I’m glad I didn’t stay home!
Silent Sentinel
The Silent Sentinel is a cool and interesting Fremont ‘shield’ figure located alone on a large boulder at the base of Cedar Mountain in the San Rafael Swell. Unfortunately, someone has recently decided to fire a shotgun at this figure, permanently scarring it. (The damage is not in the above photo.)
Sevier Shaman
Looking up at one of the largest (if not the largest) horned anthropomorphic figure found in Fremont Indian State Park. This figure is carved high up on the canyon wall at the top of a loose and steep talus slope and it patiently watches over Clear Creek Canyon. There are many other petroglyphs located adjacent to this panel, too.
