Daisy Chain

These three figures found on a large boulder at the base of Cedar Mountain in the San Rafael Swell are known as the Daisy Chain. There are a few other petroglyph panels found in the area that are easily accessible and very well known.

An excellent example of a Fremont anthropomorph found high above Clear Creek in Fremont Indian State Park. I liked the way that this one looked in black and white over the color version.

A well-executed panel of large elk or deer petroglyphs line the canyon wall along the Green River in the Book Cliffs.

Horseshoe Gallery Detail

Here’s a closer look at some of the figures in the Horseshoe Gallery found within Horseshoe Canyon in Canyonlands National Park. The dog-like figure on the left is very interesting with toes painted on each foot. There are also plenty of handprint ‘designs’ found among the larger figures, too. I’m really hoping to make it back to Horseshoe Canyon in October to visit the sites found there again.

Fallen Roof Ruin

The Fallen Roof Ruin is one of those iconic locations on Cedar Mesa that every landscape photographer seems to have a photo of in their portfolio. That distinction is well deserved since this ruin is built in an amazing setting and is very photogenic. It’s a very nice hike to visit this ruin and there is so much else in the area to see and explore!
