This is part of a large panel found in Short Canyon that has more recent petroglyphs, that are most likely Fremont in origin, pecked over some unique pictographs that may be Barrier Canyon Style.

The Twins
These two anthropomorphs, known as ‘The Twins,’ mark the end of one of the trails that leads you by many petroglyphs at the McConkie Ranch. I had visited these earlier in the day when it was completely overcast, but am glad I returned after the sun started to peek out of the clouds.
Birdcage Panel
This photo is a nice overview of much of the Birdcage Panel. I really like the intriguing red and white figure that seems to be flying above all the other figures here. There are many unusual and interesting pictographs and petroglyphs located at this site. I enjoyed visiting and exploring the area.
The Snake & I
How about something just a little bit different. This is the first photo posted on this blog that has a real person in it…and that person just happens to be me this time. This photo helps give a little scale to the very large Solstice Snake petroglyph and also lets you see just who this person is posting rock art photos on this little blog. This photo was taken many months before the solstice on my first visit to the great serpent.
Stickman
A small lizard-like stick figure with large hands and feet carved into a canyon wall near Butler Wash. Getting through all of the thick tamarisk to reach this and a few other panels near the San Juan River was an adventure, but it was worth it.
