White Man Alcove

White Man Alcove

A few weekends ago I went down to Natural Bridges National Monument with my friend Jackson so that we could search for some rock art and ruins. This particular pictograph was one of the main sites I was looking for on this trip. We actually ended up finding everything I was hoping to find while we were down there. It was a great trip!

Walking the Crack

Walking the Crack

A line of good-sized zoomorphs appear to be walking along the natural crack of this cliff face in Arches National Park. The first two figures appear to be bighorn sheep while the third one looks like it could represent an elk or a deer.

Great Hunt Alcove

Great Hunt Alcove

Here’s a photo of the Great Hunt Panel located in Cottonwood Canyon close to it’s junction with Nine Mile Canyon. This is probably one of the most well-known rock art panels around and still one of my favorites. I really like the perspective of this image and how it shows the overall setting of where this panel is located. I figured I would post a photo from the Nine Mile Canyon area today since that’s where I am right now! Hopefully I get some good new photos to post on the blog.

Perfect Ghost

Perfect Ghost

I know I posted a photo from the Perfect Panel on Monday, but I feel like posting one more this week. This is the largest anthropomorph found at this site which resembles the large figures found at the Great Gallery in Horseshoe Canyon. It’s amazing how well preserved it is!

Decorated Anthropomorph

Decorated Anthropomorph

Here’s a small Barrier Canyon Style petroglyph found near Moab in an area containing many newer Ute petroglyphs and pictographs that I visited on Saturday. The decorations on the torso are very interesting and so is the dotted circle around the top portion of this figure. It also appears to have one leg extending down from the torso.
