The Silent Sentinel is a cool and interesting Fremont ‘shield’ figure located alone on a large boulder at the base of Cedar Mountain in the San Rafael Swell. Unfortunately, someone has recently decided to fire a shotgun at this figure, permanently scarring it. (The damage is not in the above photo.)
Sevier Shaman
Looking up at one of the largest (if not the largest) horned anthropomorphic figure found in Fremont Indian State Park. This figure is carved high up on the canyon wall at the top of a loose and steep talus slope and it patiently watches over Clear Creek Canyon. There are many other petroglyphs located adjacent to this panel, too.
The Spaceman
This small petroglyph that looks like a spaceman (well, to me at least) along the Parade of Rock Art Trail in Fremont Indian State Park has been identified as being carved there by Paiutes, most likely in the late 1880s.
Big Buffalo
The Big Buffalo Panel near the confluence of Cottonwood Canyon and Nine Mile Canyon. I visited this one shortly before the sun dropped down below the rim of the canyon walls above. The bottom portion of this large panel is fading away with time, but the Big Buffalo and other figures higher off the ground remain and are still in good condition. There are many other unique and interesting panels in the area, including the well-known Great Hunt Panel.
Wolfe Ranch Petroglyphs
The famous Wolfe Ranch Petroglyphs located in Arches National Park. These historic Ute petroglyphs are in excellent condition and easily accessible on the hike to Delicate Arch.
