A small lizard-like stick figure with large hands and feet carved into a canyon wall near Butler Wash. Getting through all of the thick tamarisk to reach this and a few other panels near the San Juan River was an adventure, but it was worth it.
Moab Cutouts
Here’s a portion of another petroglyph panel near Moab that I revisited over the weekend. There’s a few very cool panels located up here above the Colorado River, but unfortunately there is also a lot of vandalism and graffiti up here, too…
Daisy Chain
These three figures found on a large boulder at the base of Cedar Mountain in the San Rafael Swell are known as the Daisy Chain. There are a few other petroglyph panels found in the area that are easily accessible and very well known.
Black & White Shaman
An excellent example of a Fremont anthropomorph found high above Clear Creek in Fremont Indian State Park. I liked the way that this one looked in black and white over the color version.
Nefertiti Elk
A well-executed panel of large elk or deer petroglyphs line the canyon wall along the Green River in the Book Cliffs.
