Silent Sentinel

Silent Sentinel

The Silent Sentinel is a cool and interesting Fremont ‘shield’ figure located alone on a large boulder at the base of Cedar Mountain in the San Rafael Swell. Unfortunately, someone has recently decided to fire a shotgun at this figure, permanently scarring it. (The damage is not in the above photo.)

Sevier Shaman

Sevier Shaman

Looking up at one of the largest (if not the largest) horned anthropomorphic figure found in Fremont Indian State Park. This figure is carved high up on the canyon wall at the top of a loose and steep talus slope and it patiently watches over Clear Creek Canyon. There are many other petroglyphs located adjacent to this panel, too.

Fading Anthropomorphs

Fading Anthropomorphs

These two similar anthropomorphs float above many other pictographs and petroglyphs at Fish Creek Cove and are fading away with time (especially the one on the left). This is a very unusual site with some interesting rock art, but unfortunately it has been heavily vandalized over the years.

Gears in the Sky

Gears in the Sky

Looking up at a few smaller petroglyph panels on the McConkie Ranch located near Vernal, Utah. One of my friends said the circular shield-like figures visible in this photo reminded him of gears, which is where the name for this photo came from. These are only a couple of the many petroglyph panels you can find on the trail to the Three Kings Panel.

Inside

Inside

Of the many interesting petroglyphs I have visited along Indian Creek, this is one that really stands out in my mind. It appears to be a Fremont-styled anthropomorph with another figure inside of the torso…or maybe it’s just decoration? Either way, it’s a very unique petroglyph.
