Four-Toed Bear
These interesting petroglyphs are found on a patch of sandstone above the Colorado River near Moab. I’m not exactly sure what the large figure at the top represents, but a four-toed bear could be a possibility.
Butler Wash Petroglyphs
An amazing panel of Basketmaker petroglyphs found along the San Juan River near the mouth of Butler Wash. One of the largest panels around, and a popular stop for rafters on the river. This is just a very small selection of all the petroglyphs found at this location.
Concentric Man
As we hiked up a small side canyon that was a little tough to access, I wasn’t quite sure what, if anything, we would find. When I spotted this large vibrant white pictograph off in the distance, I knew it was something cool. There was quite a bit of other rock art in this small side canyon, but I have to say that this unique figure was my favorite of them all.
Ancient Aliens
On my way home from The Needles this last weekend, I took the long way home from Monticello so that I could make a few quick stops at some new rock art sites in Western Colorado. The main site I wanted to visit was this one, located on a large boulder along the Dolores River. These petroglyphs are very unique and are believed to be a cross between the Glen Canyon Style and the Uncompahgre Style. They sure do look a little like aliens 😉
