This is one of the many awesome petroglyph panels located near McKee Springs in Dinosaur National Monument. When we visited again last month my goal was to photograph these panels around sunset which worked out really well.
Big Lizard
The weekend after getting back home from my trip to Arizona we headed up to Dinosaur National Monument so that we could visit the newly-opened Dinosaur Quarry. After checking out the dinosaur bones we took a drive along Cub Creek so that I could visit the petroglyphs found there. This lizard is one of the more impressive ones to be found in the area. Don’t let the photo fool you, it’s bigger than it looks! There are many petroglyphs of lizards found here which I haven’t seen anywhere else.
Bluff Horses Boulder
The final stop on our way home from the Arizona Strip was this large boulder located near Bluff, Utah that contains a few good-sized petroglyphs of two horses and two zoomorphs that could be deer.
Jump Rope Man
On our way home from the Arizona Strip, we made a detour along Comb Ridge to search for this petroglyph panel. The name Jump Rope Man comes from the central figure that appears to be jumping rope. I wonder what that figure could have represented? It’s not a very large panel, but it’s very unique and in great shape.
Yellow Pair Alcove
As we hiked up and down Snake Gulch in search of pictographs, it seems that we came across a lot of anthropomorphs that were painted in pairs. This is one of the larger and better preserved sets that we found.
